“Made in L.A.”

Made in L.A.” follows the remarkable story of three Latina immigrants working in Los Angeles garment sweatshops as they embark on a three-year odyssey to win basic labor protections from clothing retailer, Forever 21. Made in L.A. reveals the impact of this struggle on each woman’s life as they are gradually transformed by the experience. The program captures the complicated and painful journeys of workers who sacrifice everything for a chance to earn the minimum wage and make a life in the United States. Compelling, humorous, and deeply human, “Made in L.A.” is a story about immigration, the power of unity, and the courage required to find your voice.
Made in LA premiered on the PBS series POV in an unusual bilingual broadcast that reached more than one million viewers and garnered much critical acclaim. Since its premiere, the filmmakers have embarked on a multi-year DIY outreach and distribution initiative, showing “Made in L.A.” at hundreds of community, educational, and faith-based events across the country.
“Made in L.A.” will have an encore broadcast on PBS’ POV series on August 11, 2009, and is currently in educational distribution through California Newsreel.
